Shaggy figures parading through the streets, making loud rattling noises and pulling faces. Krampus and Perchten parades have become an integral part of the Advent season in Tyrol. A Krampus or Perchten procession is an unforgettable experience and is as much a part of Innsbruck’s Mountain Christmas as the famous Christmas market or the contemplative Advent carol singing. From late November to early December, you can also experience this special tradition in the city of Innsbruck. Incidentally: Perchten are figures from a traditional custom dating back to pagan times. The custom is particularly strong in the Austrian Eastern Alps region.
