"The raw, incredibly complex sound quality of flamenco singing tells a whole story on its own," says Mauricio Sotelo. The Spanish composer and music thinker "always wanted to write music as the flamenco singers sing it" - raw, expressive, full of primal passion. For this concert, Sotelo not only collaborates with the famous flamenco dancer Fuensanta "La Moneta" and the Andalusian percussionist Agustín Diassera, but also with the Salzburg star violinist Benjamin Schmid, who is the only violinist to have received the "German Record Critics' Award" in both the classical and jazz fields. Sotelo's music connects with the dances of Andalusia, even with sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti, who was already preoccupied with flamenco rhythms in the 18th century. The string sound is provided by one of Europe's leading chamber orchestras, the one from Stuttgart.
