Adern 2023

Brixlegg, Tyrol, 1953, railway platform. A young woman gets off the train with her child. She has answered an advertisement. A widower with five children is looking for a new wife. She introduces herself. And stays. Almost speechless, the two become familiar with each other, shoulder the hard times, endure the ghosts of the past. He works in the mine, she looks after the children. There is something like happiness, almost. They are not granted it. Lisa Wentz, born in Schwaz in 1995, first studied acting in Vienna, then scenic writing in Berlin. Adern was awarded the renowned Retzhofer Dramapreis. The jury praised the young Tyrolean in its statement as follows: "With few words, the author creates profound characters whose conflicts become apparent without great drama and often in the unsaid. She masters a dramaturgy of silence, similar to the dramas of Ödön von Horváth [...]. Adern is an extremely artistic folk play. In its dialogical skill, it leaves many a work of post-dramatic art far behind." The young Viennese director Bérénice Hebenstreit brings Lisa Wentz's gripping drama to the stage at the Tiroler Landestheater. in 2020, she won the Nestroy Prize in the Best Newcomer category with her production Urfaust/FaustIn and out. The following year, her interpretation of Der zerbrochne Krug was nominated in the Best Federal State Performance category. RUDOLF: I don't care what people say. ALOISIA: Me too.
