It doesn't always have to be big and lavish: If you focus on the essentials, you can also discover luxury in the (supposedly) small things in life - in moments of tranquillity, in experiences for all the senses, in the power of nature. The Innsbruck region offers such riches in many ways, especially if you allow yourself to be guided by the four elements of water, air, fire and earth when exploring.
Water: refreshingly clearAdip in the cool water - on a hot summer's day, that alone sometimes feels like pure luxury. There are many places in the Innsbruck region where you can cool off: various outdoor pools such as the Telfer Bad, which offers a wide range of activities for the whole family, as well as various bathing lakes - including Lake Lanser See, which is characterised by its idyllic location in the middle of nature. Kneipp therapy offers a different kind of refreshment and relaxation from foot to head: Therapeutic treading water promotes blood circulation, strengthens the immune system and is extremely invigorating. You can experience this for yourself at the Kneipp facilities in Gries im Sellrain and Igls as well as at one or two streams in the region.
Air: catch your breathTakinga short break and taking a deep breath is good for body, mind and soul. This is especially true in the mountains, for example on the Zirbenweg: at around 2,000 metres above sea level, you can not only enjoy the clear mountain air, but also find peace and quiet - thanks to the pleasant scent of the trees, some of which are centuries old, which give the hiking trail between Patscherkofel and Glungezer its name. A tour to the Sonnkarköpfl is just as breathtaking, fortunately only in the figurative sense: Starting from the Pfaffenhofer Alm, the moderately difficult route leads up to the summit at almost 2,250 metres before returning across wide fields of alpine roses. Conscious breathing is also the order of the day during yoga sessions on the Rangger Köpfl: sun salutations are even easier against the unique backdrop of the Kalkkögel mountains.
Fire: cosy and warmFirestands for warmth, energy and passion - and it is precisely these facets that a holiday in the Innsbruck region offers. Especially after a fulfilling sporting adventure, a wellness day is recommended to recharge your batteries. You can do this, for example, at the Hotel dasMEI in Mutters or the Alpenresort Schwarz in Mieming, whose spa areas are also open to day guests. If you prefer to focus on "solar energy", the Innsbruck Nordkette is the right place for you: the Seegrube, situated at almost 2,000 metres above sea level and only around 30 minutes away from the city centre by cable car, is not considered the highest sun terrace in the city for nothing. On 21 June, you can also marvel at a special spectacle there: the traditional midsummer bonfires that light up the mountains above Innsbruck.
Earth: to the rootsEvenon holiday, it is essential not to lose your grip on the ground. A barefoot hike in the Viggartal valley provides the necessary grounding, where you can walk "bottomless" over lush grasses and soft moss. You can immerse yourself even deeper in the alpine landscape by forest bathing: All you have to do is take in the rich impressions all around you, such as the sound of the wind or the rustling of the leaves. Tips for this form of natural deceleration include the Stams oak forest or the mixed forests in the Kochental valley - they are perfect for clearing your head. Those who also want to spend the night in the woods and meadows will find what they are looking for at the campsites in the Innsbruck region, including the Gerhardhof in Wildermieming or the Natterer See holiday paradise, where you can get up close and personal with Mother Earth.
About the Innsbruck regionTheInnsbruck region is a unique symbiosis of vibrant urban space and fascinating Alpine mountains. It stretches from the Tyrolean capital to 40 towns and villages in the surrounding area and comprises a total of six adventure regions: City, Inntal, Kühtai-Sellraintal, Mieminger Plateau, South and West. Diverse city flair and sightseeing are always just a breath away from sporting adventures and the next summit victory. The key to this diversity is the free Welcome Card guest card, which includes numerous experiences and free use of public transport. Innsbruck Tourismus is the official destination management organisation for the region. The approximately 100 employees and eleven tourist information offices of the association create unforgettable holiday memories in harmony with people and nature.
