The Epiphany Market is back at Johannesplatz Lienz from 29 December 2024 to 6 January 2025. Extended opening hours at the end of the year, a local band every day, even more culinary delights from local clubs and an Epiphany market procession that travels through the romantically illuminated old town of Lienz over three days - that's what awaits visitors at this year's Epiphany market.
For the sixth time, the TVB Osttirol invites guests and locals to a special experience "between the holidays" in the old town of Lienz. The Epiphany Market on Johannesplatz has long since established itself as THE Christmas meeting place with a first-class music programme, culinary variety and an atmospheric ambience. The market starts on 29 December and is open daily until 6 January, with the exception of 1 January, when it is closed. Initiator Franz Theurl: "As a tourism association, we want to give something back to the clubs and local musicians with this event, offer them a stage and support them economically. On the other hand, it has always been our aim to offer tourists and locals an attractive city centre experience after the Advent market. We have clearly achieved this with the Dreikönigsmarkt."
For the first time this year, the Epiphany market procession will also be making its rounds from 29 to 31 December, enlivening other historic, atmospherically illuminated squares in Lienz's old town. From 3 pm, the route leads from Johannesplatz to Rudl Duregger's old smithy (on the corner of Messinggasse and Alleestraße), where travellers can admire the nativity scene or have lucky charms for the New Year forged. Silvano Soravia from the Deliziosa ice-cream parlour provides hot drinks for this time of year. The route continues through Messinggasse and Franz-von-Defregger-Straße to Schweizergasse, where a stop at the Freedom Fighters' Monument, right next to the Goldener Stern with landlord Josef Mühlmann, promises culinary refreshments. Finally, the route leads via Schweizergasse, Egger-Lienz-Platz and Messinggasse back to Johannesplatz.
The Dreikönigsmarkt is now also known for its fine selection of food and drink. The market cakes from the clubs offer a delicious mix of traditional and creative specialities. From potato soup, chilli from local game, roasted Schlipfkrapfen, giant sausages with bread and horseradish, Kaspressknödeln in soup, sausages and Tirtln with cabbage, waffles and other desserts to vegan Gerstlsuppe, there really is everything your heart desires to fortify your guests after winter sports or a stroll through the town. Local music groups will once again be playing live music from a wide variety of genres on the evenings of the Three Kings' Market - from Sundown Music to Julia's Jukebox and Anras Brass.
