From award-winning cuisine in the valley and Tyrolean inn culture to exquisite toque-awarded menus on the mountain, connoisseurs in the Zillertal get their money's worth. Another award went to Zell am Ziller. Hier wurde Andreas Hotter im „Falstaff Barguide 2023“ als „Gastgeber des Jahres“ prämiert.
3-toque chef Maximilian Stock has been cooking at the Hotel Alpenhof since 2018 and impressed this year's Gault&Millau with his refined ideas, regional ingredients and creativity. He himself calls his philosophy "Alpine Taste".
There you can watch the chef at work as he prepares a 9-course menu, from the raw ingredients to the finished culinary delight.
From permaculture to award-winning restaurant
The restaurant "Guat'z Essen", which has been awarded 3 Gault&Millau toques, has also impressed with its sustainable concept in this year's "Der große Restaurant Guide" and in the "Schlemmeratlas". The "Sustainability Concept of the Year 2023" (Der große Restaurant Guide) and "Sustainability Award 2023" (Schlemmeratlas ) awards are a great honour for Peter Fankhauser. The 3-toque chef serves vegetarian and vegan dishes in his restaurant and was already voted one of the top 3 vegetarian-vegan restaurants in Austria by Gault&Millau in 2021. In addition, "Guat'z Essen" was one of the three finalists for the "Zukunftspreis 2023 - Future Award 2023", which was presented at the "Internorga 2023" on 9 March. More and more people are attaching importance to regional and high-quality food."
Alpine Drinks
Andreas Hotter from the "Englhof Cocktailbar" in Zell am Ziller was honoured as host of the year in this year's Falstaff Barguide. With Tyrolean flavours and local ingredients, the hotelier and bar trainer stands for a specially created "Alpine Mixology" and impresses with ingenuity as well as cocktail and spirits enjoyment at the highest level.
Culinary delights on the mountain: the best huts are in Zillertal
In this year's Gault&Millau "Alm- und Hütten-Guide", the Olperer Hütte above the Schlegeisspeicher was voted "Best Alpine Hut in Summer 2023". The Holzalm in the Hochfügen ski area and the Kristallhütte in the Hochzillertal ski area received the "Best Alpine Hut in Winter 2023" award.
Zillertal Tourismus GmbH is also delighted with these awards and sees this as confirmation of the high quality of the culinary offerings. "The Zillertal is not only one of the leading holiday destinations in the Alpine region, but also a guarantee for exceptional cuisine. We are delighted that the endeavours and top achievements of Zillertal's gastronomy have also been recognised internationally in the form of awards," says Ronald Felder, Managing Director of Zillertal Tourismus GmbH.
