There is reason to celebrate at Management Center Innsbruck (MCI). With the support of the province of Tyrol, the new competence centre "Digital Twin" will soon be launched. The comprehensive expertise at the Entrepreneurial University® in the research fields of mechatronics, mechanical engineering and control engineering is to be bundled and further expanded in order to be able to meet the requests of local industrial companies even better and in a more targeted manner in the future.
Specifically, this involves the virtual mapping and optimisation of mobile machines. By means of electro-technical simulation and empirical results, very meaningful "digital twins", i.e. simulative images of real complex machines, can be generated on the computer and operating situations can be simulated. In this way, knowledge about the behaviour of the machines in real operation can be gained very early in the development process and transferred to the concepts. The goal is faster and more valid product development, which should have a positive effect on the companies' international competitiveness.
"The new competence centre sets a milestone in the support of domestic machine builders with regard to innovations and product development," emphasises Economic Minister Patrizia Zoller-Frischauf. "On the part of the Tyrol, we are pleased to be able to provide domestic industrial companies with a competent partner for research and development in the form of the MCI."
Michael Kraxner, Head of Research & Development at the MCI, is pleased about the positive synergies: "We complement and deepen existing research fields for and together with local industrial companies. A classic win-win situation for all involved." And Mechatronics Programme Director Andreas Mehrle adds: "It's great that we can contribute to the innovativeness and competitiveness of companies with our expertise. The winners are not only the companies, but also our students."
