A musical journey from Satie to Schönberg


The Tyrolean conductor and violinist Oswald Sallaberger worked for a long time in Rouen. His special feeling for the sensitive tonality and esprit of French music is evident in his arrangements of two treasures by Erik Satie and Maurice Ravel. His colleague Henri Mouton achieved the feat in 1909 of distilling an equally concise and atmospheric piano trio from Pélleas et Mélisande, Claude Debussy's great, style-defining opera. Arnold Schönberg's cycle "Pierrot lunaire", which finds a new quality of "song" and is an essential work of early modernism, also owes its multifaceted magic to mystical, impressionistic texts from France. An evening of exquisite instrumental works that give space to the human voice singing and speaking with many facets and accents. This time it is that of the celebrated singer and actress Timna Brauer.
