WIR: IM BERG. Performative Kartierung des Brenner Basistunnels 2022

Nobody talks about the Brenner Base Tunnel (BBT) any more. We are used to driving past the container settlements; we are used to seeing the long conveyor belt in the Padaster Valley and we are used to the fact that the construction - similar to the Tower of Babel - has no end. The BBT is not a sexy topic that occupies us and yet - once you start digging yourself, you are quickly fascinated by "Günther" and "Flavia".
Dekadenz Brixen and Triebwerk7 Innsbruck, two theatre associations at both ends of the Brenner Base Tunnel (BBT), have joined forces to approach tunnel construction artistically. The team of theatre-makers from North and South Tyrol talked to people who work on the BBT and those who have tried to prevent it; they visited construction sites, went to the BBT experience worlds, studied archives, were sometimes in favour and then again against it. Together they asked themselves: Which narratives of our time are perpetuated in this gigantic construction project? Where does light fall? What remains in the dark?
Miriam Unterthiner has written texts about this and given voice to people and things involved in the construction: the workers, the residents, the politicians, the moles, the machines and the mountain itself. Michaela Senn stages the texts performatively with four actors. Margot Mayrhofer, Sabine Ladurner, Philipp Rudig and Daniela Bjelobradić are on stage with musician and sound man Fabian Lanzmaier and humorously take on the various roles. The stage and costumes are designed by Mirjam Falkensteiner.
"wir: im berg" is a multi-voiced and powerful evening of theatre that looks at the largest tunnel construction project in the history of mankind in the small Alpine region and brings it to the surface in a performative way.
