Videoperformance „Worthülsen“ von Johanna Binder 2022

WORTHÜLSEN is a multi-part video performance that deals with the practice of the "artist statement", which is common in the contemporary art world. The statement is intended to introduce the reader to the artistic work in a few paragraphs, to contextualise it theoretically and to lend it weight. In order to do this as convincingly as possible and to use the right idiom as a writer, relevant websites offer an automatic generation of artist statements in the perfect tone, while others provide detailed writing instructions.

Johanna Binder invites five curators, art critics and fellow artists to write an artist's statement for her using any description of the work and the most common buzzwords of art language. Appropriating these, Binder creates five groups of works with corresponding content, which are shown in an exhibition at BRUX and accompanied by video performances.
