"The Need to Grow" by Rob Herring and Ryan Wirick deals with sustainable solutions for global food production. Healthy soil is of central importance for the preservation of food supplies and environmental health. However, researchers assume that there will be no more arable land in around 60 years' time. The film shows the threat to food security posed by industrial agriculture and portrays innovators and activists who are committed to sustainable solutions for global sustainable food production. The documentary is a contribution to sustainable food production. Diversified and regenerative agriculture that prioritises soil health can ensure access to safe, nutritious food for us and for future generations. This also means an end to the use of synthetic pesticides and fertilisers and an end to food waste - especially as long as food ends up in landfill instead of a compost heap.
