Temple of Gaga – Sound- und Videoinstallation 2022
The artist Karin Ferrari deals with new DIY forms of spirituality and superstition. At BRUX she is realising a tricky-trashy sound and video installation about pseudo-sacred architecture. Part of the installation is the spoken word sound series Travelmyth Fictional Tapes, a collaboration with musician and sound artist Francesco Fonassi.
Pseudo-sacred commercial architecture exists all over the world, also in Innsbruck. During research trips to Southeast Asia and the USA, Karin Ferrari documented buildings and places where the veils between dream and time, the real and the imaginary, the sacred and the profane, are permeable: Shopping Mall Pyramids. Glass financial cathedrals. Monumental bank temples. Postmodern temple hotels. Neptunian wellness oases. Angkor Wat snack bars. What is it all about? What utopian longings manifest themselves here, and why? And above all... what does it do to us?
