Stams Abbey (founded in 1273) is not only the burial place of the Tyrolean princes, but also the spiritual centre of the Tyrolean Oberland. Its music archives have preserved a centuries-old treasure trove of compositions that attest to the rich tradition of music-making in the monastery. Stams Abbey Music draws its programme from this almost inexhaustible source. The choir and schola of the Stiftsmusik as well as the Paluselli Consort Stams - named after the founder of the music archive P. Stephan Paluselli (1748-1805) - cultivate the thesaurus of church music in its entire breadth.
