Jette has turned 10 years old. That's a 1 with a 0 behind it.

Jette is now in double figures.

Emil, her little brother, only turned one. He died a year ago, four days after Jette's ninth birthday.

He would have liked to have reached double figures.

In flashbacks, Jette tells of wild adventures with Emil on the planet Spacko-Platto X5.9, of family holidays together and how she played funeral games with her brother.

She remembers the last words she said to Emil and wonders whether slow worms can sneeze, why the sun is so hot and what that actually means: 'dying'.

What happens to us when we are 'dead'? And anyway, do fish actually sleep?

About the play:

"Do fish sleep?" is a sensitive, humorous and at the same time profound play that deals with the subject of death with great sensitivity.

It offers space for reflection, empathy and, above all, shows that memories and love never fade.

Where words fail, theatre can often find images.

Jens Raschke received the Mühlheim Children's Theatre Prize for the play in 2012.
