Rigoletto, court jester to the Duke of Mantua, is always worried about his daughter Gilda, whom he jealously shields from the grasp of the Duke, a notorious womaniser. An undertaking that fails tragically. Bartlett Sher stages Verdi's timeless drama and perhaps his best opera. He shifts the action to 1920s Europe with art deco sets and elegant costumes. With "La donna è mobile", star tenor Piotr Beczala intones what is probably one of the most famous opera arias.
