PETER BLAAS | pop-up achtzig 2022/2023

As a preview exhibition of the new gallery premises (official opening February 2023), we are showing a retrospective work show as a pop-up exhibition in advance at the new location on the occasion of the 80th birthday of the artist Peter Blaas.
This show of works provides an insight into the complete oeuvre of the painter and graphic artist Peter Blaas, who has always taken on new challenges in the course of his artistic career and has consistently pursued this chosen path in his mostly serial way of working. The well-known series of the 1980s 'Stones', 'Dogs' and 'Mushrooms' are represented in the exhibition, as are the subsequent works on paper and canvas from the years 1992-2009, as well as examples of the currently ongoing series of works 'Fragments' in various techniques and formats. In addition, some surprising rarities from Peter Blaas' oeuvre will also be shown.
Unlike most other Tyrolean artists of his generation, Peter Blaas has developed a pictorial language that is completely his own and thus represents an important position in Tyrolean art. His graphic-dynamic expression, the balancing of inner weighting and the importance of materiality continuously characterise all his series. In his later work, an increasing reduction of the pictorial structures and colourfulness becomes visible, mainly realised in black ink or acrylic on different image carriers.
