Christos Papadopoulos is one of the young up-and-coming choreographers who dedicate themselves to the intensive observation of movement. His pieces are unique and are dedicated to both the meditative and the living power of the body. The focus is on the minimal shifts in perception, the perpetual, often unnoticed and yet powerful movements that are omnipresent in nature, everyday life, physical phenomena and political contexts.
In Mellowing, Papadopoulos explores the question of what happens to the body that rests on the outside and vibrates on the inside. What happens in it and to it before the energy comes to the surface? What influence does the maturing of a body have?
For the first time, the Greek choreographer is working with Dance On, an ensemble made up of dancers over 40, which explores the value of age. When are we old? How can experience and lived knowledge be used creatively? And how can dance contribute to questioning the idealisation of youth that prevails in our culture? With their knowledge and what they have already experienced, together they explore moments of perception and the intensity of the moment that create a lively restlessness, a permanent vibration into which the audience inevitably falls.
