Her word is law. Whether in her brutally honest songs or in the career decisions she makes. MATHEA is only 25 years old and has already achieved numerous milestones in her musical career. From a girl in a tutu, to a shoe saleswoman, to a singer, to a businesswoman. This is probably the best way to describe Mathea's story in a nutshell. But there is much more to it than that.
Born in Salzburg, she released her first song at the age of 20. What happened next was something she would never have dreamed of. The debut single "2x" went from nowhere to number 1 in all the charts in Austria. The song also made it into the hit rankings in Germany. Only a short time later, gold and platinum records adorned Mathea's walls.
Even then, she realised that she would have to make decisions from now on:
"What outfits do I wear? How do I present myself on red carpets? And what will my next single be?" The then 20-year-old never let herself be swayed from her path and was 100 per cent involved in every step. The result: Austria's most listened-to female artist. MATHEA had well over one million monthly Spotify listeners - even though she had neither an album nor an EP at the time. She left her colleagues far behind.
While she was labelled a "one-hit wonder" at her first Amadeus AWARD nomination, this changed after she was also nominated for the 1Live Krone in Germany in the following two years. And not as "Newcomer" - but as "Best Female Artist". Incidentally, she has the Amadeus for "Best Pop" in her living room.
