MARTIN PILSER – Buntstift 2.0 2023

After the great success of the first solo presentation of the series of works 'Buntstiftarbeiten' (coloured pencil works), we are very pleased to show new works by the Innsbruck artist Martin Pilser from this series.
Martin Pilser impressively demonstrates his uniqueness in technique and artistic position with the current works. The artist is now continuing the increase in intensity already indicated in previous years with undiminished energy. The highest brilliance and luminosity of colour, as well as the greatest possible precision in contouring - even with the densest pictorial structure - characterise the new paintings of the years 2020-2023. Martin Pilser's inimitable pictorial language allows the viewer to immerse himself in complex visual worlds. Plant-like intertwining, often two-dimensional ornamentation, as well as staffages and vistas to be discovered are built up in several overlapping pictorial levels. Grown in a working process lasting weeks, Pilser's coloured pencil sheets are convincing in their quality and presence. A selection of somewhat earlier, charming small formats can also be seen in the exhibition.

As an exciting addition to this exhibition, we are showing watercolours and ink drawings by Ernst Pilser (1914-67) in our gallery M2 (Mariahilfstraße 38). The well-known Tyrolean painter and father of Martin Pilser encouraged his artistic interest at an early age and was a pioneering first influence. Ernst Pilser, who unfortunately died too early, is one of the best watercolourists in Tyrol in the period after 1945. This exhibition is open from Saturday, 3 June.
