Made in Bangladesh (Filmreihe Südlich(t)er, Land Tirol) 2024
"Made in Bangladesh" provides an authentic insight into the life of young textile worker Shimu in Dhaka. She works in a textile factory without regular working hours and secure payment of wages, without protection against dismissal and labour protection. Despite threats from the factory boss and her husband's reservations, she joins forces with her colleagues and forms a trade union. In this moving feature film, director Rubaiyat Hossain shows the challenges and hopes of a female worker in the garment industry. In the face of resistance and doubt, Shimu fights hard and resolutely for better working conditions and a self-determined life. The film sheds light on the complex social and economic structures behind the production of clothing and shows the reality of life for many women in Bangladesh. Made in Bangladesh" also shows the solidarity among the women who stand together against exploitation by the factory owners. The film encourages reflection on the global garment industry and the importance of solidarity and fighting spirit in a world characterised by inequality.
