La Traviata (Verdi) ROH 2022

19th century Paris is characterised by contrasts: glamour and superficiality, love and lust, life and death. The courtesan Violetta sings some of Verdi's most celebrated arias, such as the serene 'Sempre libera', in her poignant and passionate encounters with Alfredo and Germont. Richard Eyre's production for the Royal Opera recently celebrated its 25th anniversary on the Royal Opera House stage, and this year it returns with acclaimed opera star Pretty Yende in the role of Violetta.
