KUNST DER ÄRZT:INNEN 2024

Seven doctors from Austria will be given the opportunity to present their favourite works of art for three weeks at Galerie Nothburga.
These include neurologist Sabina FUDULAKOS, the two radiologists Dieter LUNGENSCHMID vulgo PULMY and Werner SCHUSTER, orthopaedist and surgeon and political scientist Michael NOGLER, facial surgeon Wolfgang PUELACHER, radio-oncologist Lina SWAROVSKI and psychoanalyst Eva WOLFRAM - ERTL. They all show works in a wide variety of techniques and materials in the form of paintings, objects and photographs.

What motivates doctors to be artistically active in their free time, what influences are formative, what motifs and techniques are favoured and where does the motivation come from under constant professional pressure? the answers are manifold. Art makes it possible to deal with the stress of daily demands. It is perceived as restorative to be centred around positive, aesthetic, emotional or philosophical aspects. Creating offers a therapeutic balance. We can dedicate ourselves to the beauty of our existence through active art. It is an attempt to describe our life in this world from a different meta-level. The interest in people is a major concern, to trace their innermost fears, social constraints, longings and joys.

Art out of passion and world view, painting as a re-creation of nature - the spontaneous is planned and is articulated pictorially in alienation, abstraction and figuration, painting and drawing, symbolism and automatism - all this unites the artists' work into a unique gesture.
