Klangspuren 2023 – The Young Gods 2023

For over 30 years, Swiss cult band The Young Gods have been pushing the boundaries of their musical scope. In a mixture of industrial, punk, rock and electro-avant-garde, they have developed their unmistakable style. At Klangspuren Schwaz, they will be presenting their latest project, a new interpretation of Terry Riley's In C. A work that is regarded as a milestone in recent music history and the embodiment of minimalist composing. Above all, however, it was groundbreaking as a different way of playing together. It owes more to jazz, improvisation and Eastern musical practices than to European musical traditions with their fixation on the score. In In C, the American composer only specifies 53 motifs or patterns. The number of players and instruments is variable. Together with the composer's playing instructions, they form an open, flexible system of rules, an algorithm that ensures that the piece always remains recognisable as In C despite the very different interpretations it has undergone since its creation.
