A group of women in their fifties meet regularly in the sleepy town of Yorkshire as part of a women's club to indulge in old-fashioned activities such as making jam, knitting or gardening. In reality, however, the ladies use the occasions to cultivate their friendship, forget their everyday worries and rebel against the pedantic club chairwoman. When Annie's husband John, whom they all like very much, dies of leukaemia, they want to memorialise him in their modest way and donate the John Clarke memorial sofa to the clinic where he died. To raise the money, they have an audacious idea. They produce a calendar showing the club members doing their normal activities. With one tiny difference... Like the film of the same name, the play tells a funny and touching story about female solidarity, youth mania and friendship.
