NoneAfter studying philosophy, journalism and German language and literature at the University of Vienna, Johannes Hahn began his political career in the Young People's Party, of which he was the Vienna regional chairman from 1980 to 1985.
After holding management positions in industry and business, he was appointed regional managing director of the ÖVP Vienna in 1992. in 1996, he became a member of Vienna's provincial parliament and municipal council, where he was primarily involved in health policy issues. from 1997 to 2003, he was also a member of the board of Novomatic AG. in 2003, he was promoted to Chairman of the Management Board of the company and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the subsidiary Admiral Sportwetten, but resigned from these positions as a result of his further political advancement.
In 2004, Johannes Hahn took over the leadership of the Vienna ÖVP. In January 2007, he was appointed Federal Minister of Science and Research and focussed on research projects with a broad public, the promotion of women in research and school and youth projects such as "Sparkling Science".
in 2009, Johannes Hahn was nominated by the federal government as the Austrian member of the EU Commission. In February 2010, he took up the post of EU Commissioner for Regional Policy. in 2012, Hahn was also elected as one of the Vice-Presidents of the European People's Party.
Johannes Hahn has been EU Commissioner for Budget and Administration in the von der Leyen Commission since 1 December 2019.
