Innsbrucker Festwochen der Alten Musik – Virtuosen 2022
Throughout its history, the city of Dresden has been nicknamed "Venice of the North" and "Florence on the Elbe". Augustus the Strong and his son Friedrich August II promoted musical life at their court: the court orchestra they created was long considered unsurpassable - thanks to the assembled virtuosos. An ideal and, moreover, typically Italian genre that highlighted the special skills of the Dresden virtuosos was the concerto grosso. These are pieces of music in which large instrumental groups enter into an often extremely colourful dialogue with smaller, solo instrumental groups. Our concert with the Ravenna-based Accademia Bizantina features a selection of compositions by Antonio Vivaldi, Georg Philipp Telemann, Johann David Heinichen and others, written or dedicated to the "celebre l'orchestra di Dresda"
