Granatapfel und Weiblichkeit 2023

Under the title "Pomegranate and Femininity", the Innsbruck gallery Nothburga is showing the two artists Anna Maria Achatz and Katharina Schmidinger in its exhibition from 21 March to 15 April. In their works, the artists show the interplay of rhythm and structure, earthiness and abstraction, filigree and colour, always based on nature.
The paintings by Anna Maria Achatz were created during an artist in residence stay in Portugal. The artist's dialogue with the landscape, nature and the southern sky were the impulse for numerous works on fine Chinese paper with highly pigmented, coloured ink. They are rhythmic narratives, colourful descriptions of forms that move dance-like in space. In addition to the organic, the "structures" - particular spatial arrangements - are also visible and perceptible in Anna Maria Achatz's paintings. Seemingly playfully, the artist moves in the surface while painting. There is a behind and above, grid-like interpenetrations of colour structures, which in turn generate new colour creations and optically lead from the picture surface into the third dimension. It is a view into the depth of the pictorial space on the one hand, but probably also a view into the depth of the painter's emotions.
