Yusuke Kafuku, a successful director and actor, lost his beloved wife Oto two years ago. Although he has not yet fully come to terms with this personal blow, he agrees to direct Chekhov's Uncle Vanya at a festival in Hiroshima. There he meets the reserved Misaki, who is assigned to him as his chauffeur. During their car rides together in the red Saab, the two begin to reluctantly confront their past and open up to each other to tell of both their lives. Kafuku is confronted with the secret of his deceased wife.

This masterful adaptation of a story by Haruki Murakami was one of the most beautiful films at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival, where it won several awards.
