die Wissen 2023

Let's look at German grammar with its three articles, singular and plural: "das Wissen", it says, actually and according to Duden only possible in singular, suggesting a neutral canon. A canon that distinguishes what is right and what is wrong. Something that has to be learned, perhaps even by heart, and can then be reproduced when asked. People with multiple affiliations, longings and plural horizons of experience know more than that; they embody and live the knowledge of different situations and contexts. They can feel multiple at the same time and have continuously (had to) experience how place-bound and context-specific knowledge is. That the question of what is right and wrong cannot be answered in the same way everywhere, with every person and in every moment is their lived experience. Knowledges manifest themselves physically. They are inscribed, sometimes reconciling, sometimes antagonistic, but always present.
the knowledge is the second part of the TAXISPALAIS trilogy, after Gurbette Kalmak / Staying in the Stranger, on questions of coexistence and how we can think and practice discourses of multiple belonging more adequately in Western Europe, shaped by artists who work with this knowledge and share it through their art.
