These people are terrible people. Wars, conflicts, climate catastrophes. Even after 86 conferences, they can't find solutions! Nobody, not a monkey, not a polar bear, not even a mouse, wants to listen to the news or read the newspaper, it's always the same. And then the adults claim that they are doing everything they can to make things better for the children. "Those poor children," say the animals and decide to put an end to this hustle and bustle. For their part, they call for a first (and certainly last) international conference in the animal tower block. Representatives have travelled from all continents, including Oskar the elephant, Alois the lion and Leopoldine the giraffe. They come up with great ideas to bring the adults to their senses, because after all: "It's about the children". However, Erich Kästner emphasised that his appeal was not just aimed at them with the subtitle "A book for children and connoisseurs". Or, to paraphrase the polar bear Paula: "I will never understand how such nice children later become dentists!"
