My secret is mine," explains Edith Stein, who spent her life searching for "the truth". A search that made her a philosopher, women's rights activist, martyr and, after her murder in Auschwitz in 1942, a saint and patron saint of Europe. But how can such an incomprehensible life be dramatised, how can we portray what made an initially "everyday" woman a saint and a role model? These are precisely the questions posed by a playwright and her dramaturge, who completely questions her reception of Edith Stein. By the time it becomes clear that both world views and approaches are completely different, a fruitful outcome seems a long way off.
