The French ensemble Into the Winds revives the fascinating soundscapes of the late Middle Ages. The accomplished young musicians are masters of the instruments of this period; the sounds of the wind instruments are unusual to our ears, but incredibly fascinating and haunting. The sound expedition into the late Middle Ages begins with a selection of pieces of music from the so-called Ars nova; this new style of music originated in France in the 14th century: The pieces are highly complex in terms of rhythm and counterpoint and therefore sometimes sound really exotic to our ears today. Exceptional artists such as Guillaume Dufay gave the music a new euphony that seems more familiar to us and ushered in the heyday of vocal polyphony in the High Renaissance period. Josquin Desprez, perhaps the most important composer of the 1500s, is at the end of the ensemble's sound journey Into the Winds: follow him and let yourself be surprised and enchanted by shawms, crumhorns, slide trumpets, bagpipes, flutes, percussion instruments and all kinds of rarities in the instrumental sector.
