Carillonkonzert 2022

The Peace Carillon in the north tower of St. Jakob's Cathedral
The Innsbruck Peace Carillon is the first four-octave carillon in Austria
A carillon is called a carillon if it consists of at least 23 bronze bells, i.e. has a range of at least 2 octaves. The Innsbruck Peace Carillon comprises 48 bells with a range of 4 octaves
It can be played mechanically via its own hand-foot keyboard individually, but also with the help of punch cards and electromagnetic percussion hammers.
The entire carillon is mounted on a separate suspended construction made of galvanised steel profiles (see photo) and is located in the dome area above the large bell and below the lantern in the north tower of the Cathedral of St. James. The so-called player's cabin was formed in the lantern and the keyboard was set up in it. This device resembles an organ console with a simple manual and pedals for the bass bells and is connected to the clappers by rocker joints through special wires
All the bells were cast by the Royal Bell Foundry Eijsbouts in Asten (Netherlands). The carillon was installed by the company Grassmayr, Glocken- und Kunstguss, Innsbruck.
