"We saw no red light. We saw no land, no moon, no stars. Only water. High waves. Storm!" writes Elyas Jamalzadeh in the Innsbruck liest book Freitag ist ein guter Tag zum Flüchten (Friday is a Good Day to Flee) (Zsolnay, 2022) about his journey to Austria.
How can what is experienced on the run be put into words at all? What options do refugees have and choose? The two authors Elyas Jamalzadeh and Andreas Hepp will talk about this with the experts Helga Ramsey-Kurz (Institute for English Studies, University of Innsbruck) and Andreas Oberprantacher (Institute for Philosophy, University of Innsbruck).

Elyas Jamalzadeh's Afghan parents were already living in Iran when he was born. He was born a refugee. in 2014 he set out on the dangerous journey to Europe. With impressive immediacy, a journey is described here that one can hardly survive. The fact that Jamalzadeh has never lost his sense of humour and ambition helps him arrive in a foreign country. He learns German, starts an apprenticeship and falls in love.
Elyas Jamalzadeh was born in Tehran as the child of Afghan war refugees. According to his mother, it was snowing on the day of his birth. He fled to Austria with his parents in 2014/15 and began an apprenticeship as a hairdresser.
Andreas Hepp, born in 1996 in Wels, studied German and now works as a German teacher at a public school in Linz
