Beethoven Septett 2024
"This is my creation" is what Ludwig van Beethoven is said to have said after the premiere of the septet for clarinet, bassoon, horn, violin, viola, cello and double bass in reference to the famous oratorio by his former teacher Joseph Haydn. In fact, the success that the almost 30-year-old Viennese by choice was to achieve with his latest chamber music work exceeded all expectations. The response to Beethoven's 20th oeuvre from all sides was so euphoric that it soon became too much for him. Our concert, which will be performed by an all-star ensemble of soloists from top international orchestras, including several prizewinners of the prestigious ARD music competition, will feature a programme that begins in much the same way as the one with which a section of the Royal Copenhagen Orchestra once toured the Danish province of Jutland in the early years of the 20th century. A musical joke by the then outgoing court conductor Carl Nielsen is followed by Mozart. This is followed by a trio by Jean Françaix, who created humorous musical monuments to the latter throughout his life.
