Bach Kantaten in der Stiftsbasilika Stams 2024

The Stams Collegiate Music Choir and the Paluselli Consort perform Easter choral and orchestral music by J.S. Bach together with a selected ensemble of soloists under the direction of Jannik Trescher.
At the centre of the concert are two cantatas, "Bleib bei uns, denn es will Abend werden" and "Halt im Gedächtnis Jesum Christ", which Bach composed during his time as Leipzig's Thomaskantor. Pascal Ladner (countertenor), Nikolaus Pfannkuch (tenor) and Johannes Maria Wimmer (bass) will perform the arias and recitatives of the cantatas as vocal soloists.
Between the two cantatas, Bach's virtuoso harpsichord concerto in D minor will be performed by Elias Praxmarer, soloist at the monastery organ. Bach used the music of the concerto in various phases of his life, including as a violin concerto, later in various cantatas and as an organ concerto.
"Halt im Gedächtnis Jesum Christ" (BWV 67), first performed in Leipzig on the Sunday after Easter, 16 April 1724, will be heard in concert by the Stiftsmusik choir for the first time in Stams Abbey Basilica almost exactly 300 years later.
