Ausstellung: ZEITGESCHICHTEN 2022
With Azin Feizabadi, Mónica de Miranda, Małgorzata Mirga-Tas and Vladislav Shapovalov As the concluding chapter of the exhibition trilogy on the crisis of Western paradigms (HEXEN/GÖTTINNEN), ZEITGESCHICHTEN asks how we might interrupt the idea of linearity and progress. The linear model of time with the accompanying idea of continuous progress - an important matrix of Western thought - has also been deposited in art history, for example in the concept of the avant-garde or in different types of institutions such as the museum or the Kunsthalle. We should rethink this relationship to time, which either historicises and encloses or treats the present as a kind of commodity, as raw material to be mined for future profit. What if our thinking of the cyclical was not limited to the regular circling of clock hands, but opened up to a consciousness of time that is receptive to complex interconnections and interrelationships of times? In this concept of time, imagination and change would be considered as essential as ancestral experiences of the life of the planet, its human and non-human communities. An expanded present would be enriched by more than the inert debris of the past - previous knowledges would instead live on in it in adaptations and embodiments. Could we live relations of time in which we speculate about forms of healing, knowing that we will never control the future with planned calendars?
