Emmanuèle, a writer with a flourishing private and professional life, rushes to the hospital - her father André has just had a stroke. He is in his mid-eighties, a wealthy factory owner and art collector. And a misanthrope who loves life passionately but is now dependent on the help of others. With no prospect of recovery, he wants to end his life in a self-determined way. Emmanuèle, the favourite daughter, is supposed to help him in this endeavour. She, of all people, experienced her father as an egomaniacal patriarch in his youth and wished him dead more than once. An employee of a Swiss hospice travels to Paris to meet with her and her sister Pascale, who is jealous because the father did not ask her. Both struggle with the ambivalence of their feelings and have to make a decision, while the father mocks them as crybabies..
