Academie Konzert: Mozart 1770 – von… 2025

Joseph Haydn was the father of Viennese Classicism and the "second father" of Wolfgang Amadé, who became the most popular of all composers. But who else was there in the second half of the 18th century? The so-called "minor masters" were often at least as well known as the "greats" and were often held in high esteem by the latter. Mozart was a good friend of the Czech composer Josef Mysliveček, who was 19 years his senior but also died tragically young and was known in Italy as "il divino boemo", the "divine Bohemian" - and even arranged his early classical music. He took the fine minuets of the "Salzburg Haydn" Johann Michael, a kind of elective uncle for "Wolferl", with him on his journey to Italy. Michael's "big brother" in turn enthusiastically performed Joseph Martin Kraus' symphony, which is on our programme, for the first time in Eisenstadt. The Franconian Kraus not only shared an all too short life with Mozart, but was also a luminary as a celebrated court conductor in Stockholm. Howard Arman, a charismatic musician of our time, makes a guest appearance on the podium of the TSOI.
