Kufstein/Thiersee - On Sunday, 7 September 2025, the children's film classic Das doppelte Lottchen celebrates its 75th anniversary with a special film screening at the Passionsspielhaus Thiersee - the very place where significant parts of the first film adaptation of Erich Kästner's famous novel were made in 1949.
The Kufstein Film and Video Club invites visitors to a matinee where they can not only experience the award-winning black and white film, but also immerse themselves in the rich film history of Thiersee. Starting at 10 a.m., an exclusive guided tour entitled "Hollywood at Lake Thiersee" offers exciting insights into the time when the Passion Playhouse served as a modern film studio between 1946 and 1952.
A milestone in post-war cinema
Das doppelte Lottchen was filmed in 1950 under the direction of Josef von Báky, with a screenplay by Erich Kästner himself, who also narrates the story. The main roles were played by the twin sisters Jutta and Isa Günther. The film was shot in Munich, Thiersee, Rattenberg and Reith im Alpbachtal. The film was awarded the first Federal Film Prize of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1951.
A story with lasting relevance
The story of twin sisters Luise and Lotte, who grew up apart, is still moving 75 years after its premiere: topics such as separation, family and identity are more relevant than ever. The film impresses with its creative use of camerawork, sensitive staging and timeless narrative style.
Film history from Tyrol
For a short time after the Second World War, the Thiersee Passion Playhouse was the centrepiece of Austrian film production. A total of 18 feature films with international participation were shot here. Thiersee's historical contribution to the art of film is being brought back into the public eye by the anniversary.
