The spectacular charity race "weerBERGauf" took place yesterday in the Silberregion Karwendel and inspired both professional and passionate amateur ski mountaineers. The event, organised by the Silberregion Karwendel tourism association, not only put the participants' sporting skills to the test, but also served a good cause for the benefit of children's aid in the Schwaz district.
The race began at the Schwannerlift and led the participants over a challenging ascent of over 600 metres in altitude and 7 km to the mountain station of the Hüttegglift. The subsequent descent over 250 metres in altitude and overcoming an obstacle just before the finish line demanded a lot from the athletes, not only physically but also mentally. Professional ski mountaineers from the German national team and the state squad from Bavaria fought a thrilling competition with dedicated amateurs.
42 participants took part in the various categories. Tanja Tremetzberger (1:08:59) triumphed in the Masters Women category, while Franz Prem (54:40) from HSC Vögelsberg Wattens came out on top in the Masters Man category. Sophia Weßling (54:27) from DAV won ahead of Nicole Klumair in the Open Woman category. With a best time of 42:25 minutes, Felix Grammelsberger from the DAV was superior in the Open Man category. In the U19 category, Eva Weigl (1:03:34) and Raphael Hatt (44:56) both won the race.
The full results of the race will be published on the official event website www.silberregion-karwendel.com/weerbergauf. We congratulate all participants on their impressive performances and would like to thank all supporters, exhibitors, sponsors and guests who made this event a success and something very special. The first three places in all categories (Masters/Open/U19, male/female) were awarded sustainable wooden trophies, skilfully crafted by the Tyrolean company Scales.
The "weerBERGauf" also marked the start of the Tiroler Schneegaudi, which will take place on 20 and 21 January 2024 at the valley station of the Hüttegglift. Gentle winter sports such as ski touring, snowshoeing, tobogganing and winter hiking are the focus, accompanied by well-known exhibitors presenting their latest winter sports equipment. Interested parties had the opportunity to sign up for taster tours on site.
