At the end of the season, the beginners of the freeride scene will once again be offered a stage to get a taste of the first contest air. The tour makes its first stop in the Kaunertal and brings the Open Faces Freeride Series 2024 to a fitting close. In addition to the 1 qualifier competition for adults, a 2* junior contest will also be held.
To round off this year's tour, the Kaunertal will open its doors to aspiring freeriders for the first time, combining freeriding in the backcountry with freestyle elements. The Kaunertal Glacier with its numerous freeride opportunities has always provided a stage for national and international film projects and is therefore the ideal location for holding a freeride competition. The planned contest face is located just below the Weißseespitze and requires the riders to climb up to the start gate, which, as with all freeride contests in the Qualifier series, must be completed on foot with skis and snowboard on a rucksack. However, the panorama on the ascent at the foot of the Weißseespitze will remain in your memory."Rookies" in the spotlightTogetherwith the 1* Qualifier in Alpbachtal at the beginning of February, the 1* Qualifier in Kaunertal represents a unique opportunity for those freeride enthusiasts who want to experience contest flair for the first time. As the beginners' competitions have shown in recent years, amazing performances can always be expected here and it is quite possible that the door to a freeride career will open for one or the other. Just two years ago, for example, Austrian skier Ulla Gilot took part in a 1* qualifier - this season she is competing in the Challenger competitions for one of the highly coveted tickets for the premier class, the Freeride World Tour.
The entire Open Faces Family will be there at the stop in the Kaunertal and will celebrate the end of the season with a DJ and after-contest party. Anyone who wants to be part of the freeride action on the Kaunertal Glacier and the subsequent parties is cordially invited. Either up close on the face or with the best views from the terrace of the glacier restaurant.
The Open Faces Freeride Contest will take place as part of the Spring Classics Kaunertal, which will be launched on the same day with the grand "nature" run snowpark opening and numerous other events.
