Updated on 07.08.2024

Following the pool summit and the presentation of the guidelines for future pool policy in Tyrol, it is clear that the state of Tyrol will support the new start for the Ehrwald indoor pool. Following talks with those responsible in the Tyrolean state government directly after the pool summit, it is now clear that the state will participate, emphasise Markus Köck (Mayor of the municipality of Ehrwald) and Theo Zoller (Chairman of the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena).

Even if individual members of the community in the region want to sow doubt with rumours, in the end it is the result for the population that counts. "Every child should learn to swim" is a clearly formulated premise of the new state-wide swimming pool strategy, which also includes the new concept for the "Ehrwald 2.0" indoor pool, according to Köck and Zoller. The promise of support from the state had been clearly stated, now it was a matter of finalising the level of support in the coming weeks. As part of the swimming pool study presented by the state, it had become clear that a total of 75 million euros would be available for the construction, renovation and maintenance of swimming pools by 2030. Köck and Zoller explain that Ehrwald will definitely be included in this.

The new project with an investment volume of 9.5 million euros was only recently officially presented. The planned revitalisation of the indoor pool includes a comprehensive thermal refurbishment, the installation of a new wood chip system and the renovation of the sanitary facilities and electrics. In addition, the toddlers' area and the saltwater pool will be modernised. Renovation of the slide tower will also be part of the project. Following the positive signals from the state, the initiators of the new project Theo Zoller (Chairman of the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena), Alexander Guem (Managing Director of Freizeitbetriebe Tiroler Zugspitze) together with Markus Köck (Mayor of the municipality of Ehrwald) are now looking forward to the plans for the relaunch of the indoor pool with optimism and confidence.
