The "Aodili-Tyrol Hiking Trail" in Huanglong National Park in Sichuan Province was opened in a festive ceremony last week. The hiking trail, which was created in collaboration between Tirol Werbung, Österreich Werbung, other Tyrolean tourism partners and Huanglong National Park, symbolises the connection between Austria and China, particularly in the field of nature-based tourism.
Innsbruck, 29 August 2024 - The hiking trail was opened by representatives of both countries, including the Austrian Ambassador to China, Andreas Riecken, Consul General Günther Lazelsberger and Head of Market at Österreich Werbung, Emanuel Lehner-Telič, as well as representatives of Huanglong National Park. The opening underlines the growing interest of Chinese travellers in outdoor activities.
Growing enthusiasm for Tyrol
Before the coronavirus pandemic, China was Austria's largest Asian source market with 1.5 million overnight stays in the 2019 tourism year, around 370,000 of which were in Tirol alone. Although the number of overnight stays in China has currently only reached around 25 per cent of the pre-corona level, China is once again the strongest source market in Asia for Austrian tourism in absolute terms. The trend towards individual travel and high-quality experiences among Chinese guests is reflected in Austrian tourism in the longer length of stay and increased interest in outdoor activities, among other things.
"Since the end of the pandemic, Austrian tourism has seen a pleasing recovery in terms of the Chinese market of origin. In view of the growing demand for individual travel and outdoor activities, we are optimistic about a long-term positive development in the length of stay of Chinese guests," says Karin Seiler, Managing Director of Tirol Werbung.
A celebration of cultures
The opening of the hiking trail was followed by a Chinese-Austrian folk music evening organised by Martin Gundolf and the "Tiroler Abend". The event in Huanglong National Park provided a cultural finale and emphasised the close cooperation between the two nations.
In addition to Österreich Werbung and Tirol Werbung, Innsbruck Tourismus, Ötztal Tourismus, the St. Anton am Arlberg Tourist Board and Swarovski were also involved in the initiative.
