Working in tourism sometimes has an image problem. The Wilder Kaiser is countering this with a video campaign.
Those who show that there could not be a more fulfilling job for them than in the kitchen or at the reception are brought in front of the camera - even if a professional "diversions" was necessary first.
Some people may have already noticed the posters or videos: Alois, Gabi and Manuela can now be seen at bus stops, in buses, at the bakery, on digital screens and in numerous other places in the Wilder Kaiser region and the surrounding area. Who are the three and what do they have in common? All three work in tourism and all three are proud of it. They love exactly what they do - even if they only became aware of it through detours.
Be it Alois the cook, who had switched to construction in the meantime, or Gabi the receptionist, who made a foray into self-employment or real estate: Both have only realised through these changes that they actually only feel called to one job. For example, Alois' realisation that with the right team in the kitchen it is simply the best job he can imagine, or Gabi, who only realised how much this work gives her when she no longer worked with guests. In the videos, both talk very openly - also about the downsides that working in tourism brought them or where they still see the challenges today. And yet: they cannot imagine a better job.
And that is exactly the message that the Kaiserschaft and the Wilder Kaiser Tourism Association want to send with this new campaign, funded by the federal government and the EU in the Rural Development Programme: "We want to use concrete examples to show that working in tourism can be quite challenging, but for many it is still the industry they want to work in. Making things possible together as a team and happy guests are the greatest motivators here," says TVB Managing Director Lukas Krösslhuber. "My special thanks go to the protagonists for their courage to talk so openly about their career paths and their doubts," adds Marketing Director Katharina Muck.
"Working in tourism" as a strategy building block
The funding was not only used to launch this campaign, but also to invest directly in the quality of work and leadership in the Kaiserschafts businesses: 20 people from five businesses are currently taking part in a course on systemic leadership in order to further develop themselves and their own businesses and areas of activity. This is very well received: "The participants appreciate the strong practical relevance of the course and the structured approach to the topics of leadership and staff development," says Katie Tropper, project manager of the "Kaiserschaft".
The campaign and the project fit perfectly into the strategy of the Wilder Kaiser Tourism Association. Because "working in tourism" is one of six defined fields of action in which work is to be done for the future. "As a tourism association, we want to support our tourism professionals where there is the greatest need. This is currently finding employees and - even more relevant - retaining them. The current campaign and the training course for the members of the 'Kaiserschaft - Attraktives Arbeiten im Tourismus' group are intended to work in this direction," says TVB Managing Director Lukas Krösslhuber about the importance of the topic for the region and the tourism association.
