The return of the cows to the valley after a successful summer on the mountain pastures was an occasion for joy and exuberant celebration for the farmers and residents of the Brixen Valley on Saturday, 23 September.
The Almabtriebe and Almfeste in Brixen im Thale, Kirchberg in Tirol and Westendorf once again attracted many curious spectators. This colourful and musical spectacle with live music and regional specialities underlined the importance of this traditional event. Already in the early hours of the morning, the cows were decorated with bells, colourful arrangements and flowers before they moved down from the alpine pastures into the valley. This marks the end of the alpine season, and the alpine dairymen's huts were winterised to remain closed until next spring.
Another Almabtrieb is coming up in the Brixental on Saturday, 30 September. This one will take place at the Hotel Elisabeth in Kirchberg. Visitors can look forward to a day full of traditions, culinary delights and musical entertainment from the "Alpis" and "Echt&Bärig". A small farmers' market will already be open from 11 am, where regional products can be purchased. The kitchen crew of the Hotel Elisabeth will take care of the physical well-being of the guests. From 2 p.m. the traditional maypole auction of the young farmers will take place.
