Mit umweltfreundlichen E-Bussen zum Schlegeis Stausee

Updated on 11.07.2023

The new timetable of the Verkehrsverbund Tirol (VVT) will be launched just in time for the summer season, with a 30-minute feeder service to Schlegeis from 15 July. What began as a pilot project last summer is now an integral part of the "Congestion-free to the side valleys" mobility campaign. New this year: the buses run on electricity.

The Schlegeis reservoir is known far beyond the borders as a popular excursion destination in the Mayrhofen-Hippach holiday region. The reservoir also serves as a central starting point for numerous outdoor activities such as the Flying Fox, the via ferrata #Schlegeis 131 or various mountain tours. In recent years, the increasing number of visitors has repeatedly led to traffic jams, waiting times and bottlenecks in the car parks. In view of the increasing car traffic, there was an urgent need for action.

Andreas Lackner, Managing Director of the Mayrhofen-Hippach Tourism Association, is particularly pleased that e-buses are being used for the first time this summer. "In May, together with our partner Christophorus Reisen, we undertook test drives to Schlegeis, which were very successful. The e-buses manage the 1,200 metres in altitude effortlessly and without intermediate charging," reports Lackner.

Under the motto "Stress-free to the side valleys - take the bus!", the Mayrhofen-Hippach Tourist Board, the Tyrolean Transport Association, Verbund Touristik and the Zillertal Bergbahnen have therefore launched an extension to the regional bus route 4102 to the Schlegeis reservoir.

The regional bus line 4102 runs every half hour from 15 July to 19 September 2023 from Mayrhofen train station and runs via the centre of Mayrhofen and several boarding points to the Schlegeis reservoir. The various fare models including ticket purchase are available online at http://www.vvt.at or in the VVT Ticket App (for ticket purchase) and in the VVT Smart Ride App (search for connections).

Tip: The Regiobusline 4102 can be used free of charge with the Zillertal Activ-Card. Only the toll fee is charged.

The car park in Mayrhofen offers a convenient option for parking vehicles. There are two bus stops in the immediate vicinity of the car park (Apotheke Hauptstraße and the post office), both of which are within walking distance.

There is also a bus service every half hour to the side valley "Zillergrund". From 15 July to 17 August, there will be additional journeys on bus route 8328, which runs from Mayrhofen railway station to the Zillergrund dam.
