MCI continues to grow!

MCI | Die Unternehmerische Hochschule® in Innsbruck has some positive news to report. As has just been announced by the Austrian Ministry of Science, the MCI will receive a total of 30 additional beginner's study places (90 study places in full expansion) in the following Bachelor's study courses from autumn 2023 due to the great demand:

  • Digital Business & Software Engineering
  • Medical, Health & Sports Technology
  • Smart Building Technologies

MCI Rector Andreas Altmann expressed his relief: "Due to the enormous demand, we have not been able to consider many high-quality applications for years, which prevents young people from having promising opportunities and local companies from having urgently needed junior staff. With the additional study places we can alleviate the greatest pressure, but the whole thing is ultimately a drop in the ocean."

MCI Supervisory Board Chairman Oswald Wolkenstein adds: "We very much support the efforts of Science Minister Martin Polaschek in the direction of the much-needed inflationary adjustment of student place funding, the realisation of industry-oriented research funding and the increased promotion of European Universities. In addition, we urgently need the establishment of industry-related doctoral programmes, which are particularly relevant for the western federal states in view of the bold high-tech agenda in the neighbouring federal states of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg."

Cornelia Hagele, responsible for health, care, education, science and research in the Tyrolean provincial government, sees the allocation of additional study places to the MCI "...as a great sign of confidence in Tyrol as a science and business location. After all, only 5 out of 21 universities of applied sciences in Austria have received additional study places. However, it would be important to make the focus on MINT disciplines (mathematics, information technology, natural sciences, technology) more open in the future and to expand it to include, among others, the fields of business, health, care, social affairs and sustainability. We need young people everywhere who are educated to the highest standards of science. And finally, we urgently need to strengthen application-oriented research in order to secure the innovative strength and competitiveness of our economy in international competition
