In order to strengthen the scientific exchange between Austria and the USA, the Marshall Plan Scholarship is awarded annually to Austrian students with outstanding academic achievements. No less than three MCI students can look forward to the unique opportunity to conduct research for their MCI master's theses at one of the world's best universities. The research stays last 6-8 months each, and the award was based on a highly selective selection process.
David Altmann, Master Mechatronics & Smart Technologies
David Altmann will be spending the coming semester at Harvard University in Massachusetts, where he will be researching his Master's thesis "Design and fabrication of an electrically actuated aperture". He is investigating the development of flexible, electrically actuated apertures for waveguides based on dielectric plastics.
Wolfgang Grosek, Master Mechatronics & Smart Technologies
Wolfgang Grosek will complete his research stay at Yale University in Connecticut. In his Master's thesis, he will focus on the topic of "Digitisation of the Physical Performance Test and Training" - a digitisation of the conventional physical performance test. This involves measuring the movements of the human body with the help of sensors in order to collect continuous and accurate data.
Stefanie Leutenegger, Master Environmental, Process and Energy Engineering
Stefanie Leutenegger is conducting research during her stay abroad at San Diego State University in California. Her Master's thesis "Evaluation and Optimization of Polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) Extraction Methods from Microalgae Chlorella Vulgaris" aims to develop a resource-saving extraction process for bioplastics from algal biomass.
Marshall Plan Scholarship
The prestigious Marshall Plan Scholarship is awarded for research stays at prestigious elite universities in the USA. MCI students have been regularly awarded the coveted scholarship since 2009.
