MCI Creativity Award 2023: Ideenreichtum trifft Start-Up Spirit

Inventiveness is rewarded at MCI: every year, the Entrepreneurial School® honours the best business and product ideas of its students with the MCI Creativity Award. this year, 79 students from various disciplines and research fields demonstrated their wealth of ideas, entrepreneurial potential and sense of social responsibility with 35 exciting individual and team submissions.

The submitted business concepts were assessed by a jury of experts in a demanding multi-stage selection process. Based on several criteria such as degree of innovation, benefits, potential and unique selling point, ten ideas were selected for the final round, with the five best concepts being honoured with prize money. Two special prizes were also awarded: the special prize "Project with the greatest social impact" and the special prize "Concept most ready for implementation". All finalists also received subscriptions to the daily newspaper "Die Presse".

The winners and their ideas:

1. 1st place: Stefan Dobler(Bachelor Digital Business & Software Engineering)

BionicAI offers people with visual impairments a barrier-free way to participate in everyday working and educational life. Thanks to the innovative combination of hardware and software, the smartphone-based visual aid creates a cost-effective and portable alternative to existing systems.

2. 1st place: Jasmin Eder and Ruben Freiherr von Stein-Liebenstein zu Barchfeld(Master Medical Technologies)

MIRAπ is a rehabilitation device that can be used after paralysis of the hand to regain the function and sensitivity of the fingers by means of various training modes.

3. 1st place: Bhargav Pawar(Master Environmental, Process & Energy Engineering)

With the "ZERO-Discharge" process technology, wastewater from the chemical industry can be completely purified and reused through catalytic wet oxidation.

4. 1st place & special prize "Project with the greatest social impact": Carina Dirtl, Julia Wiesinger, Kristin Kruse, Inga Plum and Carina Steyerer(Master of Social Work, Social Policy & Management)

The entrepreneurial idea "Strong social work in the (digital) public sphere" focuses on making social work and social issues more visible in the digital space, with which the team not only achieved fourth place, but was also honoured with the prize for the greatest social impact.

5. 1stplace: Pirmin Aster, Jan Kuhn, Matthias Falbesoner, Sascha Richter, Jürgen Zangerl and Dominik Zierler(Bachelor Digital Business & Software Engineering)

Airlunch is an innovative ordering platform for airport restaurants that enables flight crews and airport employees to order and deliver meals easily, quickly and cost-effectively.

Special prize "Most realisable concept" :

Manuel Ferdik (Master of Industrial Engineering), Dominik Mair, Michael Renzler and Georg Saxl

With concRead, Evopix offers a battery-free sensor system that is embedded directly in buildings and wirelessly transmits measured values such as temperature or humidity to the outside. This enables permanent and non-destructive monitoring of the structural integrity of buildings.
